Watch out for these guys at the International Convention. It'll be a burner of barns. Our wonderful hosts, the chapter out of Jackson, Mississippi were wonderful to have invited us to perform on their May 31st show and open for our friends in Redline.

So we rented a van so as not to put extra miles on any of our own vehicles and make the trip as comfortable as possible for 4.. grown.. men (and 5 on the return trip), and as fate would have it, we blew a left rear tire which we didn't discover until after our meal at Longhorns about 1.5 hours along the way. Awe-some. At least we had tummies full of delicious steak as we scrambled to locate the Holy-Grail of a spare tire and mount the bad boy, before embarking on a rental-replacement trip that turned into a Gilligan's Island-esque stormy perilous quest into the heart of Memphis' seedy underbelly.

It was nearly 1am when we heroically escaped Memphis' late-nite car rental industry's lazy grasp and found ourselves in Jackson a few hours later.

No matter, however. Their Bing Crosby themed show was a big success, with the chorus and three chapter quartets providing high quality entertainment. You guys are the best! You brought us bacon.

Lunch Break received valuable feedback. "Messy. Messy. Messy." A scathing report from a singing judge, you think? Or perhaps the kneejerk reaction from a fellow barbershopper about our show package.

No, actually, it was the glowing review from 7-year old Shelby reeling in the aftermath of yet another Lucky Charms on-stage explosion. What was once The Cereal Explosion Ridiculousness is quickly becoming The Norm, and it makes me (just one member of Lunch Break) a little sad. How does one keep it fresh show after show? Do we include the milk next time, exponentially complicating the lives of the hapless cleanup crew volunteers? Do we walk a live camel across the stage a la The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular?

I give you the image of a man brooding over these morose thoughts.

Peace out.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.lunchbreakquartet.com/2008/05/messy-messy-messy-messy-messy.html' title='"Messy. It was the FIRST EVER annual show for this new chorus, and what a chorus it is! Led by the esteemable and infamous director/arranger Aaron Dale, the KVU is headed for the International Barbershop chorus competition this summer in Nashville, so if you're in the area, do not miss these guys. They are awesome. It was perhaps one of the highest honors for Lunch Break to share the stage with such a vocal machine that is the KVU. (They're nice guys too.) Lunch Break was fortunate to qualify with a score of 78.3% for the 2008 International Barbershop Quartet competition in Nashville, TN that takes place this summer. We couldn't be more excited and appreciative of all our brothers in the Music City Chorus for their unwavering support over the past 9 months as we've prepared for this moment. And also, we give thanks to all our Dixie District friends (new and old) who encouraged us along the way. A little pat of the back with a "great job, guys!" or "Man, I nearly passed a kidney stone laughing at you guys!" goes a long way, let us tell you.

As the saying goes, "Comedy is serious business", and Lunch Break's early venture into this dangerous territory would be even more wrought with peril were it not for the wise council of our friend/coach Rick LaRosa, and for that matter, all our friends who don't mind in the least bit looking us square in the eye and saying "That's not funny. Do something different." or occasionally, "Haha!" It's a journey, no doubt, but we're having some of the best times we've had as quartetters exploring this strange and wondrous land.

The weekend also saw a new high for the Music City Chorus, finishing 2nd place behind the always impressive Atlanta Vocal Project. And our Dixie quartet brothers Pinstripe (79.6%), and Redline (87.2%) have also qualified for the 'big show' in Nashville this summer. (Wheelhouse and Stormfront qualified as well, competing at Dixie out of their own home districts.) Congratulations, guys! Good luck to Great Nashville Singout and State Line Grocery who will compete in upcoming prelims.

What.

First Post!

Hello all. Lunch Break has had a busy season in its infancy thus far. After winning the Dixie District's quartet contest in September 2007, they have had a chance to perform for the Rockettes, met the Mayor of Nashville and some Titans cheerleaders, helped light up the Nashville christmas tree, shared a spot on Channel 4's More At Midday with Holly, interupted a session of the Tennessee State Legislature to deliver a singing valentine, entertained the Kiwanis Club, and were the featured quartet on the spring Music City Chorus gospel concert.

Lunch Break has also been invited to perform the american and canadians national anthems at an upcoming Predators hockey game (Feb 21).

So you can see that it's been a busy season for Lunch Break and with our schedule of shows coming up, it promises to continue to get even crazier. Crazy is good.
